WeTransfer is a Dutch startup that enables people to transfer large amounts of digital files over the internet. The website is well-known for their big - and beautiful - background ads. After the success of their webbrowser tool, they found it time to expand to mobile.

At Fonk I worked on the interaction design of this application for iOS and Android. My main goal was to keep the app as simple as possible on the surface - just like the web environment - but still give every user the experience that is right for him or her.

Part of the interaction design with all the logic that determines the shape of the app.

Creating an app for everyone

The app that we developed didn’t have a specific target audience. The app is for 'everyone who has pictures on their smartphone and wants to send them to someone else or some other device’. This is the reason we developed a system that checks what type of user it is dealing with. Based on this information, it gives the user tips on how to use the app in the best way.

For example: If a user has more than 100 photo’s, we’ll show the user how to select multiple images in one go.

Send your pictures in three steps

To make it understandable for as many people as possible, we stayed away from offering too many different transferring options to the user. Simply select your pictures, select a contact from your addressbook, add a message and transfer.
